Summer University “Human Rights, Education and Sustainability”, 2nd ed.

Geneva (Switzerland), 18th – 21st June 2024   |  Oidel is pleased to announce the successful completion of the second edition of the Summer University, organized in collaboration with ERDIE (University of Geneva) and the Global Human Rights Clinic (Notre Dame Law School). The course explored education as a human right, equipping the 27 participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to advocate for the right to education in their local contexts while upholding international human rights principles.

The course featured insightful discussions led by esteemed experts in the field. The first day was dedicated to UN human rights protection mechanism on education and to pathways for civil society contributions to those mechanisms. The second day included sessions on educational pluralism and democracy, human rights education and learning, and global citizenship education. The third day involved a visit to UNESCO’s IBE, a tour of the Palais des Nations, and attending a Human Rights Council session. Finally, the course concluded with talks on specific educational contexts such as home-schooling in Europe and school choice in the USA. A notable highlight of the week was the private session with Farida Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on Education.

Oidel extends its heartfelt gratitude to all collaborators, speakers, and participants for their contributions to making this course a resounding success. We look forward to similar initiatives in the future.
